Another Strange Love Live first was marked on Friday night as we were joined by a good portion of the OurPDX authors to celebrate the 1 year anniversary of a great Portland site. There were too many of us for our studio so we improvised by moving the festivities upstairs and out of the dark. It’s amazing what happens when you pack that many of us into a room. Instead of telling you anything else I’m just going to tell you check out our episodes with Betsy, Dieselboi, Wizard Boots, Radio Gretchen, Metroknow, MorganPDX, PDX Advice Guy, Aaron Hockley, PAgent, mediaChick, Cosmic Charlie, and DJTV.

The 3 Projects of Nate Angell

After a very long week full of Webvisions goodness we settled into our cozy little studio with an old friend of the show, Nate Angell. As always he was bursting with excitement for the projects he’s working on. We managed to tackle three of them in the Tech Edition: hideNtweet, a reevaluation of the standardized testing system in our schools and DayOn.

Then we moved on to afterhours where the chatroom was invaded by trolls. Most of the trolls were kind of lame or just plain crass but a few of them had inventive insults that Dr Normal and I were able to laugh about even later. Dr Normal had to shut the chat down on too many occasions to count but he always turned it back on. Which leads to the title for our Afterhours episode: Afterhours With Xolotl and Chatroom FAIL.

I’ve got the Tech Edition for you as per normal but I’m afraid you’ll have to wait a bit for the audio files on Afterhours. If you’re dying to see (or relive) the utter trainwreck that was Afterhours you can see it here on the blip.tv site.

The two days we spent interviewing folks at the WebVisions Conference were a whole lot of fun and yielded about 12 hours of video. Dr Normal and Joe are hard at work getting all that footage cut down into individual interviews. When that happens they’ll be posted here and there… I’ll be sure to let you know where you can find them.

Join us Friday May 29th as we talk to the lovely ladies of Open Source Bridge! We’ll be joined in studio by Selena Deckelmann and Audrey Eschright. During the Tech Edition we’ll get a chance to chat about OSBridge, a Portland Open Source Conference in its first year. We’re super excited about all the goings on during and around the conference, and NOT just because we’ll be there live for 2 of the 3 days to talk to speakers and attendees. You can watch us on the live stream and join the chatroom, as long as you behave yourselves.

It’s Hip to be The Square

Friday night we were joined in studio by Stephanie Stricklen and Aaron Weiss, the host and Senior Producer (respectively) of KGW’s The Square. It was a full house as fans of both The Square and SLL settled into our little studio audience to see what happens when Newscasters and Podcasters collide.

Strange Love Live on location

Last Friday night we did things a little bit different. We packed up all our gear, left the comfort of our little studio and headed to Vidoop in downtown Portland for a little party to celebrate Cyborg Camp. The party was, I think, a big success and a good time was had by all, and that’s largely due to the awesome party planning skills of Nate Angell.

During the “Tech Edition” we were lucky enough to talk to Amber Case who instrumented the whole shebang. We kept her around during Afterhours and then brought on Cyborg Camp Speakers Bill DeRouchey, Lia Hollander and Ward Cunningham. We also snatched up a few moments with Bram Pitoyo, the man behind @cyborgcamp on twitter. As if that wasn’t enough fun to pack into an episode of SLL we managed to lure Will Norris, Alain Bloch and Scott Kveton onto the couch as well.

There’s one last person I want to call attention to before you listen to the latest episode. He wasn’t a guest on the show but I assure you the Cyborg Camp Pre-Party episode would not have been possible without the talents of Joe Christensen of Blaze Streaming Media. Not only was he there every step of the way with Dr Normal to get stuff up two flights of stairs and set up, he also brought a brand new level of video delight to the show with 3 camera angles.
