30 Hour Day Take 2

As I type this up we’re 6 hours and 40 minutes out of starting 30 Hour Day 2, a 30 hour live streaming telethon. It’s not just an excuse to get up and prance around on camera at in varied states of wakefulness though, it’s a chance for us to raise funds and visibility for some amazing charities: p:ear, The Oregon Food Bank and The Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross.

This time around not only will we have some amazing acts (you really should check out the schedule) but we’ll also be recording episodes of Strange Love Live on location and Dr. Normal’s Crazy Talk. We also have an iPhone app this time around, lovingly created for us by Bryan Enigma (who will be one of the guests and SLL tonight).

Best Laid Plans and All That

As I sit in the foyer above the quiet, well quiet as compared to the last few days, Hacker Lounge at Open Source Bridge I’m watching Dr. Normal edit this week’s episode of memePDX (recorded here yesterday) while we stream B Roll from the Adventures of Uncle Nate at lunch on Tuesday.

All is quiet, and so we’ve abandoned our plans to get the unconference uninterviews. It was a great idea… but it was kind of what we did all day Wednesday and Thursday.

So we’re tearing down the mobile studio and packing up to move it back underground…

Blame it on the Bangs

For some reason or other my bangs are super fluffy today. I can’t figure out why. There is nothing about it, no reason that makes since, no explanation for why they would be behaving this way. So babies, I’m doing the only thing that makes any sense at all under these heightened hair circumstances… I’m taking the night off.

That’s right, you read me. I’m calling in “Bad hair day”.

No? Not buying it? Oh well. We’ve just been super busy here at the house of SLL and decided to give ourselves tonight to hang back and relax. We’ll be back next week with a brand new episode talking with the saucy author of The Miracle In July, Michelle Anderson. We may have a few surprises up our sleeves for the weeks that follow as well.

So enjoy your Friday night everyone, and your weekend too and make sure to get your asses back over here next Friday. I’ll see you then won’t I?

Nostradamus Has Nothing On You!

Friday night (and the first day of 2010) is coming fast. This last week of the year is flying by and I don’t want to miss my chance to remind you that Friday night we’ll be joined by Rick Turoczy (yes yes, that Rick… the one from Silicon Florist… and the one we record memePDX with… yes yes… The one from 30 Hour Day. Same guy).

We’ll take some time to reflect on all that happened in our little corner of the world in 2009, but we don’t want to look back for too long or we’ll miss all the things that are coming in 2010. There will be tears (no there won’t). There will be laughter (at least I hope so). There are a couple of very special things we want to tell you. And there will be predictions for the year to come!

And that’s why I’m writing this to you! It’s my sincere hope that the predictions won’t just be coming from Mike, Rick and I. We want YOUR predictions to! What’s going to happen in 2010? In Tech? In Portland? In our crazy little scene? In the world? We want to know!

No Vacancy

For quite a while now we’ve had a habit of allowing a few people into our studio on Friday nights to be the SLL live studio audience. We’ve had some good times. Some outrageous times. Some slightly insane times.

And while we’ve loved having all of you involved in the podcast, unfortunately all good things must come to an end. Effective immediately there will be no live studio audience for Strange Love Live recordings.

As fun as it was to have folks join us, it has presented too many variables that we can not control, both outside and inside our very small studio which now has to house not just one, but two sets. Don’t blame me. Blame that Silicon Florist guy who has usurped our studio audience space.

We need to be able to concentrate on the episode guest, streaming live, and producing our shows.

The studio audience is closed for business. Please… no crying, whining, begging or pleading.

Unless you want to yell at Turoczy.

it’s for the couch potatoes, man

Sometimes it’s just really hard to watch videos on your computer let alone your mobile device, someone has taken pity on those of you who would rather see Strange Love Live on your television screen. Yes, starting this Sunday at 6 PM those of you on the Westside of the Portland Metro area can count yourselves among the lucky few able to watch our podcast on the boob tube. Tualatin Valley Community Television will be airing select episodes of our 30 minute Tech Edition on cable & Verizon FIOS channel 23 through September 30th.

Perhaps you live downtown or on the East side, like us? No worries, you can watch the Tech Edition on Wednesdays at 4 AM on Comcast channel 11. Yes that’s 4 in the morning, the perfect time for farmers, afterhours fanatics and those of you involved in early morning conference calls.

But wait, there’s more! We wouldn’t let them leave out Afterhours would we? Of course not! Afterhours episodes of Strange Love Live can be seen at 3 AM Mondays and Saturdays for the Westsiders watching us on channel 23 and at 2:30 AM for those of you watching Comcast channel 11.

Westside Channel 23 Schedule:

Mondays: 3 AM – Afterhours 11:30 AM – Tech Edition
Tuesdays: 3:30 PM – Tech Edition
