Another Strange Love Live first was marked on Friday night as we were joined by a good portion of the OurPDX authors to celebrate the 1 year anniversary of a great Portland site. There were too many of us for our studio so we improvised by moving the festivities upstairs and out of the dark. It’s amazing what happens when you pack that many of us into a room. Instead of telling you anything else I’m just going to tell you check out our episodes with Betsy, Dieselboi, Wizard Boots, Radio Gretchen, Metroknow, MorganPDX, PDX Advice Guy, Aaron Hockley, PAgent, mediaChick, Cosmic Charlie, and DJTV.

The SLL crew is taking next Friday night off.  There will be no live show but I’m sure Doc Normal will be streaming something fun for those of you who still insist on sitting in front of your computer that night.

We’ll be back to normal with guest Tyler Sticka Friday July 10th at 10 PM.  I hope you’ll join us!

If you want more info on that night check out Cosmic Charlie’s post!  And full disclosure, I also write for OurPDX.

You may notice the Dr. Tiki bump at the beginning of our episodes, I’d like to thank Rick TuroczyIgal Koshevoy and  Aaron Hockley,  for use of their photos!

Afterhours at the Hacker Lounge

Things with Strange Love Live went a little differently than normal this week and so the posts are a little different too. Instead of a Tech Edition and an Afterhours on Friday night we did 2 full days of Tech from the Open Source Bridge Conference. We had a wonderful time and were thrilled to have been invited to be a part of the OS Bridge’s first year!

But when Friday night rolled around we had another show to do. Instead of settling into the comfort of our home studio we moved to the Open Source Bridge Hacker Lounge located at the top of the downtown Hilton with a special co-host for the night, Brian Westbrook.   It was a great night with fun people and we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful backdrop as we watched the sun fade and the city lights come on. Enjoy the video episode now and we’ll be back to you this week with interviews from the conference itself! (special thanks to @UncleNate, @Verso and @Emailstine for helping us make this all happen)

Live From OS Bridge!

We’ll be starting our live stream from OS Bridge off with a bang tomorrow at 9 AM with a live stream of the opening keynote shot by Blaze Streaming Media.  Make sure to check in with us throughout the day as we keep up with the goings on at the conference and interview all the interesting people we can get our hands on.  We’ll try to keep our twitter stream up to date so you can find out there who we’re talking to.

We’ll be streaming from 9 - 5 Wednesday and Thursday from room B117 of the Oregon Convention Center.

Friday night we’ll change gears a bit and set up in the Hacker Lounge where we’ll be streaming live from 8 - 10 PM.

If that’s not enough excitement for you I’m thrilled to add that Friday night I’ll be joined by special co-host Brian M Westbrook!

Friday Night With Shawn Levy

Friday night we were joined in studio by Shawn Levy.  Having talked to Shawn on several occasions I was really looking forward to this episode.  I knew that if we had  had one problem with the show it would be that we had so many different topics we wanted to cover we’d never have enough time for all of them.  I wasn’t wrong.

In the Tech Edition we talked about the future of journalism and tech then it was straight into Afterhours to talk about his new book “Paul Newman: A Life”, movies and the Timbers Army.

Next week Strange Love Live is heading out of the studio again.  We’re packing up and going over to the Oregon Convention Center to be a part of the Open Source Bridge conference.  That means we’ll be streaming live Wednesday and Thursday during the conference and Friday night from the after party at 8pm.  It’s going to be a crazy week but we’ll try to tweet what guests are on as we go along.  A few days after the conference you’ll be able to find the interviews on Tech Love Live.

Are you attending OS Bridge?  Come by B117 and say hello!

Tonight on Strange Love… not so live

Tonight we’re taking the night off the whole live gig but we didn’t want to let you down so we’ve chosen one of our favorite afterhours episodes to stream.  Dr. Normal and I will be in the chat room and the Afterhours with John Nastos will roll at 10 PM.

But what about RIGHT NOW?  Well if you needed something to watch right now I’d suggest you head on over to TechLoveLive and watch the interviews from WebVisions 09!

Next Friday, June 12th we’ll be joined live at 10 pm by author, Oregonian writer and rabid Timbers fan Shawn Levy.

Open Source Bridge with Audrey & Selena

Friday night we were joined by Audrey Eschright and Selena Deckelmann the founders of the Open Source Bridge.  OS Bridge is a conference being held here in Portland June 17-19th.  We had a terrific chat with them about the conference, we they started it and what you can expect if you attend.  They also put out a call for more volunteers (it’s a volunteer organized and run conference) and sponsors.  Then in afterhours we tried mojitos and babbled the hour away about Portland, Food Carts and sooo much more.   Check out both episodes!

This Friday we won’t have a live episode, but I’m sure that we’ll have something fun going on the stream at 10 PM… Maybe DrNormal and I will even be in the chatroom with you!

Next Friday, June 12th we’ll be joined by author, Oregonian writer and rabid Timbers fan Shawn Levy.

The 3 Projects of Nate Angell

After a very long week full of Webvisions goodness we settled into our cozy little studio with an old friend of the show, Nate Angell.  As always he was bursting with excitement for the projects he’s working on.  We managed to tackle three of them in the Tech Edition:  hideNtweet, a reevaluation of the standardized testing system in our schools and DayOn.

Then we moved on to afterhours where the chatroom was invaded by trolls.  Most of the trolls were kind of lame or just plain crass but a few of them had inventive insults that Dr Normal and I were able to laugh about even later.   Dr Normal had to shut the chat down on too many occasions to count but he always turned it back on.  Which leads to the title for our Afterhours episode:  Afterhours With Xolotl and Chatroom FAIL.

I’ve got the Tech Edition for you as per normal but I’m afraid you’ll have to wait a bit for the audio files on Afterhours.  If you’re dying to see (or relive) the utter trainwreck that was Afterhours you can see it here on the blip.tv site.

I’ll update this post with the audio file for Afterhours Episode 105 when it goes up, but now, onto other things!

**

The two days we spent interviewing folks at the WebVisions Conference were a whole lot of fun and yielded about 12 hours of video.  Dr Normal and Joe are hard at work getting all that footage cut down into individual interviews.  When that happens they’ll be posted here and there…  I’ll be sure to let you know where you can find them.

Join us Friday May 29th as we talk to the lovely ladies of Open Source Bridge!  We’ll be joined in studio by Selena Deckelmann and Audrey Eschright.  During the Tech Edition we’ll get a chance to chat about OSBridge, a Portland Open Source Conference in its first year.  We’re super excited about all the goings on during and around the conference, and NOT just because we’ll be there live for 2 of the 3 days to talk to speakers and attendees.  You can watch us on the live stream and join the chatroom, as long as you behave yourselves.

We Survived #WV09 and all you got was this very long podcast

We’ve had a great time the past 2 days hanging out and streaming from WebVisions. We couldn’t have done it without the talents of Joe, Kelly and Christine. Our sincere thanks goes out the them and to Brad, Stephanie and the entire WebVisions team.  We had more wonderful guests than I can list for you right now, but rest assured that as soon as I have time to catch my breath I’ll post a link list.  For now the best I can do is share the video from today.  Watch it and enjoy!

Live From WebVisions!

If you can’t make it to WebVisions this week then join us live from the exhibition hall 9 AM - 3 PM

And Now… Not So Live From WebVisions

The Strange Love Live extended crew has had a long day of podcasting from the WebVisions Exhibit Hall and now through the magic of the interwebs you can go back in time and relive it all with us. For the first 3ish minutes you’ll just see a logo and hear audio but then the show starts up in earnest.

A big thanks goes out to Joe, Kelly, Christine, WebVisions and all our wonderful guests!  We’ll be back for more tomorrow.
